What We Teach

Teachings at Our Institute

Kathak Dance

Trimurti Kala Kendra emphasises the overall spiritual development of the student. The aim is not to dance mechanically, but to become one with the art.

Each student learns the following aspects of the dance:

  • Nritta — pure dance & technique: movement exercises, basic footwork (tatkar), turns (chakkars), rhythmic patterns, timing, and recitation of the dance language (bols).
  • Nritya — dance with rhythm & expression: interpretive gestures, expression, and the rendering of traditional songs and poems.
  • Natya — drama: the art of storytelling, the nine sentiments (nava rasa), and working with masculine/feminine energies (ardhanariswara — Shiva/Shakti).

Bharatanatyam

One of the oldest classical dance forms of India, Bharatanatyam is taught at Trimurti Kala Kendra with the same discipline and devotion as Kathak — building strength, precision and expressive storytelling.

Each student learns the following aspects of the dance:

  • Adavus — the foundational units of movement: precise steps, postures and rhythmic footwork that build strength, control and stage presence.
  • Hastas & Abhinaya — hand gestures (mudras) and facial expression used to convey meaning, emotion and storytelling (abhinaya).
  • Margam — the traditional repertoire structure, from invocation (Alarippu) through pure dance (Jatiswaram) to expressive pieces (Varnam) and the closing Tillana.

Folk Dance

To bring variety and colour to our regular classical classes, we teach the folk dances of India — so that students become versatile and gain a deeper appreciation of our culture and tradition.

“Discipline is the doorway to grace. At TKK, every beat is a lesson in both.”
